Work & Song Productions is partnering with IAM, which works on connecting you with your musical heritage through the traditional songs and sounds of Italy. This workshop, our percussionist, Anthony Taddeo, will be helping participants to explore traditional Italian folk music through voice, rhythm, and history. Through a decade of research and in partnership with the Italian American Museum of Cleveland, we cannot wait to share the universal connections in our musical traditions.

In each 75-90 minute session, we'll learn authentic folk songs from the Alla Boara repertoire and Alan Lomax field recordings, and discover the stories and traditions behind the music. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn the tamburello (traditional frame drum) and its distinctive playing techniques.

No prior musical experience necessary (though some comfortability in singing will be very helpful) - bring your voice and your curiosity! Sessions will include historical context about the music's origins and cultural significance. As the group develops, there may be opportunities for informal performances.

While designed with Italian-Americans in mind, this workshop welcomes anyone interested in exploring the rich musical traditions of Italy.

The Connecting Chords Music Festival is an annual fall music series, with additional events and projects held throughout the year.

Organized by the Michigan Festival of Sacred Music, they strive to present a diverse array of artists, genres and venues each year – celebrating and supporting our area musicians while also bringing in unique artists from all over the world. Join Alla Boara and GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Brian Kay for an intimate musical journey across the Mediterranean, weaving together traditional songs from Spain, France, and Italy. Kay, a modern-day troubadour and Artistic Director of THEATRO, brings his expertise in historical music and Netflix soundtrack work to blend seamlessly with Alla Boara's passionate interpretation of regional folk traditions. REBECCA LANDELL, cello, has been praised for her “luminous” (Cleveland.com) and “notable” (The New York Times) sound which elicits a range of expression “from classically evocative to Hitchcock horrifying” (Washingtonian). Her solo appearances include performances with Apollo’s Fire, Les Delices, Atlanta Baroque, Columbus Symphony, and Batzdorfer Hofkapelle. She pursues a variety of educational opportunities including working with the faculty at Oberlin Conservatory, where she teaches baroque cello and viola da gamba
